From Kolatoli's surf to Inani's coral stones and Himchari's waterfalls — find your spot along the world's longest natural beach.
Nine zones stretch along 120 km of coast — from central Kolatoli to remote Teknaf, each with its own beach character and access.
Most visitors base in Kolatoli or Sugandha and take day trips; three days covers the highlights, a week lets you reach Inani and St Martin's.
Beach-hop south to Inani and Himchari, or push all the way to Teknaf for the St Martin's Island ferry.

Cox’s Bazar is a coastal district in southeastern Bangladesh with a personality far larger than its size: at its heart, the world’s longest natural sea beach — 120 unbroken kilometres of golden sand, a seafood culture that treats dinner as a communal feast on the shore, and neighborhoods so distinct they feel like separate seaside towns. But the district doesn’t stop at the waterline. Within an hour of Kolatoli sit a hilltop Buddhist monastery at Ramu, the coral-rich island of Maheshkhali with its Hindu temple, the forested cliffs of Himchari National Park, and the southernmost reach at Teknaf, where Myanmar’s hills loom across the Naf River. One local CNG or bus fare connects nearly all of it.
Most trips fit one of three shapes. Beach-first: sleep in Kolatoli or Laboni and walk to the surf — or in Sugandha for the same proximity with quieter mornings. Character-first: base in Inani for coral stones and clearer water, in Himchari for waterfalls and forest trails, or along Marine Drive — the scenic coastal road with the best dawn views. Escape-first: the islands and villages — a stilted guesthouse on Maheshkhali, a monastery-side room in Ramu's green valley, or a fisher’s lodge in Teknaf near the Myanmar border. Many visitors stitch the two: four beach nights, two hill or island nights.
Cox’s Bazar remains remarkably affordable for a world-famous beach. Doubles in Sugandha and Jhilongja start around $18–28 most of the year; Kolatoli and Laboni run $25–45 for equivalent rooms; the island and hill guesthouses hold $22–38 outside holiday weekends. The price curve is predictable: floors in the monsoon months (June–August when the sea is rough), peaks during Eid holidays, the winter tourist season (November–February), and across October–March. A plate of fried fish with rice still runs $3–5, a fresh coconut $0.50–1, a local bus ride $0.30–0.80, and the ferry to Maheshkhali costs less than a seaside paratha breakfast.
You will not need a private car for most of this site. Local buses and shared CNGs cover the beach road from Kolatoli to Inani; public ferries reach Maheshkhali Island in 30 minutes and Kutubdia in an hour; and the scenic Marine Drive coastal route runs 80 km south to Teknaf, lifting travelers past cliffs and fishing villages for the price of a bus ticket. Motorcycle rentals from Kolatoli fill the gaps — Himchari waterfalls, Ramu monastery, inland villages. A car earns its keep only for chaining multiple hill stops in one day; our getting-around guide maps the whole system.
The region rewards explorers as much as sun-seekers: the coastal walks run from Inani’s coral beach to the cliffs of Himchari National Park; cycling routes follow Marine Drive’s 80 km coast road and the quieter inland tracks; the parks & nature sites range from mangrove forests to hilltop pagodas with views across two countries. Eat your way through the seafood guide, time your trip by the events calendar, follow a ready-made itinerary from 24 hours to a week, or plan around small travelers with the family guide. Every entry names the nearest place to sleep, one click from live prices.
